My big sis is helping me add photos to the blog,

I'm driving her nuts because she can't push the buttons.

But that's what little sisters like to do.

That's alright she's already lost her rocks.

My kid.

One night my telephone rang at about 2:30 or 3:00 a.m.  I had un-plugged the telephone in my bedroom for some reason, and had to run down the hall to the kitchen to answer the phone.

My 16 year old daughter was calling.

She sounded like she was in real distress and something bad had happened.

I said, "what's the matter" "where are you" "are you okay"

She said, "there's a mouse in my room"

I said, "what"

"There's a mouse standing on its back legs looking at me"

Robyn, was in her bedroom downstairs and had her own phone line.

I'd probably been mad if it wasn't so funny.

I think the funniest part is she could hear me running down the hall to answer the phone.

Another Holiday

Well, we survived another Holiday.   We had our daughter and her little family over for dinner.  PaPa cooked a ham with cherry sauce and green peas.  Robyn brought funeral potatoes, I made deviled eggs, fruit salad (my own recipe with mini marshmallows and walnuts) and a delicious bunny bread with raisin for eyes and nose.  Maddie really liked it.

The bunny bread was the best, especially since I had given up bread for lent.   I actually took a nap while the bunny was rising and after baking he kind of looks like a mouse.  Maybe, its the angle of the camera.  Anyway, it was yummy.  The grand-kids thought it looked like a bunny, but grand-kids will agree with anything papa and gamma say.   They just love us no matter what.

My oldest granddaughter Hailey, is sitting here playing a game on her I-Pod, my grandson, Ashton was too tired for us and is asleep on the couch.  Maddie who is 6 almost 7 is just being annoying.  However, I wouldn't expect anything else from a mini me.    I have to say being a grandparent is so much fun and I wouldn't give it up for the world.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter.  Five lilies opened today.

Easter Lilly

I received this beautiful Easter Lilly from my husband. It had 3 blooms when he gave it to me, another lily opened. There are two more lilies still to open. I hope they open before the others wilt. Six opened lilies would have to be lucky. Kind of like a four leaf clover. Or is that a three leaf clover that is lucky.

A beautiful living thing!

Oh and I gave up bread for lent. Bread is my favorite food and I could live on bread alone. I missed the rolls, bread sticks and just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Lent is over tomorrow so I thought I'd make something special, just for me.

Can you smell the bunny bread baking?

By the way, Mildred and the dozen-minus-one clutch are doing great.
I was told that Mildred turns the eggs so the baby ducks develop properly.

I've come to the conclusion that humans are not the smarties species in our universe.

Mildred

I think the ducks are following me!

Our office moved five blocks south,  lo and behold, a duck hangs out there.

I've named her Mildred.  After sitting in the same spot for a couple of days we decided she was nesting.

I haven't seen a male duck around, so Mildred must be mate-less.  Thought she might be thirsty so I took her some water in the black tray.   I looked out and she was drinking the water.

My husband thought Mildred might be hungry so he bought her a doughnut.  I put pieces of the doughnut in a plastic tray and set it by Mildred so she could eat if she was hungry.  Mildred moved to the side when I put the tray down.  I was able to see what Mildred was sitting on.

Mildred has dropped 11 eggs (they are the size of chicken eggs)  Poor Mildred was loaded down. I think they still have a couple of weeks before they hatch.   I can't wait until they start hatching.  Wish I had a motion camera to capture the event.

If you'll notice, Mildred has lined the nest with duck down.  It looks soft and comfy for the dozen minus one duck eggs.  Amazing!!!!!!!

Keep the dozen minus one ducklings in your thoughts and hope they all are healthy.

Nature is so amazing.   I'll keep you posted.

who'd thunk!

My brother, David had lung cancer.  He went through 8 weeks of radiation and some chemotherapy at the Veterans Hospital.  He had his right lung completely removed in February, 2010.   He is disabled and can't work.

I talked to David and his girlfriend on the phone last night and he is doing well.   They told me David is going to the YMCA and swimming and sitting in the hot tub.  They also told me they got a computer so David could do some research, play games and other things you can do on the computer.

Did I tell ya, David is 60 years old, a very serious person, and doesn't even know how to the turn the computer on.   Make me laugh.  I tried to explain my e-mail address to him so he can contact me when he gets it hooked up.  WOW, that was a nightmare.  I had to tell him that it's not like the old CB Radios where you push a button and talk, say "roger" and "over and out".  You have to type on it.

I'd love to be a fly on their wall when he fires the baby up.   He'll be banging his oxygen tank against the wall.

I did come up with a good "Handle" or screen name for him.    He can call himself, "1lungdavid@....."

I asked him if he liked it and he said "not really".  Bummer, Richard and I both thought it was a good one.

Some people just take life too serious.
